Volcano Vineyards 2006 Merlot - Fortmiller Vineyard Rogue Valley

Gold Medal – 2009 Sommelier Challenge Gold Medal – 2008 Riverside International Wine Competition Silver Medal – 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
This Merlot offers dark fruit and floral aromas with rich plum and blackberry flavors. Supple tannins and a hint of caramel round out the finish. This wine will continue to develop complexity over the next few years.
Vineyard site: Sitting around 2000 feet elevation, the Fortmiller Vineyard harvests later than most other sites in the Rogue Valley. It is a low yield vineyard of reddish, Rouche Silt Loam soil, rich with minerals, and lower in nutrients to stress the vines.
Food pairings: The Merlot works beautifully with savory foods - mushrooms, cured ham, parmesan cheese, seaweed, asparagus, most fish and meat.
