Another GOLD for the 2006 Merlot
September 30, 2009
We received a Gold Medal for our 2006 Merlot at the 2009 Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition. As the name suggests, the judging panel for The Sommelier Challenge is comprised entirely of sommeliers.
Scott is thrilled, stating, “This is the forth gold medal for our 2006 Merlot – it is a beautiful wine made from exceptional grapes.”
The grapes for our Volcano Vineyards 2006 Merlot all came from Fortmiller Vineyard in Talent, managed by Quail Run Vineyards. Sitting around 2000 feet in elevation, its cool, even temperatures allow the grapes to develop lush, concentrated flavors.
Our first commercial vintage was 2003 and since that time we have become one of the most awarded micro-wineries in America. Volcano Vineyards is the only Oregon winery to garner gold medals in the last three San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competitions, was one of only 5 Oregon wineries invited to Pebble Beach Food & Wine 2009, and at the 2008 National Women’s Wine Competition, our 2005 Syrah won Best of Show, a feat virtually unheard of for a winery our size.
